Gherkin versus the Shard

When Norman Foster (a fellow Reddishion) designed the Gherkin, it's presence when erected, instantly grabbed the reigns of the marvelling looks Sleigh. It was the ultimate subject when shot by helicopters to depict London on TV programs. That was until the Shard came along with it's dynamic shape, it's blinding light reflects, and its intimidating stance, thus kicking the sweet little Gherkins ass into oblivion and taking the title of number 1 line in the sky. AOI / TFL Illustration competition

This last month has seen me really analysing what it is exactly that I love about two subjects; one - illustration, two - London. When you really deconstruct something then break it down, the results are often quite profound, which is what I did before creating these two boys. The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn

This one is about the captivating land that is known as Gray's Inn field (aka the above title). Many a lunch time was spent here wallowing in self pity and scrutinising and admiring all the diverse characters that walked the gravelly path or lounged in the sprightly hay.

The Secret Circle

If you yomp along the streets of London for long enough you're bound to break through the commercial and find things that are endearing and precious to you. You find things that you have an innate desire to see regularly, this is what this journey represents to me. This journey in which I am referring to is the following: Dalston - De'Beauvouir - London Fields - Broadway Market - Columbia Road - Shoreditch - Old Street - Angel - New River Walk - then back to Dalston. Usually all I would need for this 8 mile journey would be a good flat white, a moleskine, a 2H, and a smile.

Oxford University Press - illustration commission

Recently I was comissioned by Oxford University Press, to do a couple of illustrations for one of their journals. Of course I was delighted, the delight was teamed with the pleasure of working with another good art director, there is a god. Here is one of my favourites:
